A short reference to nominal tensile strengths for steel fastener property classes 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9.

What the designation describes
Property classes describe mechanical properties of applicable steel fasteners. The number before the decimal, multiplied by 100, gives the nominal tensile strength in MPa.
These nominal values explain the designation. They are not a substitute for the applicable standard's acceptance limits, which depend on the product and size.

Order-specific requirements
The required class, coating and inspection documents can be quoted against your drawing or specification. Coating compatibility and test requirements are reviewed separately; a higher property class is not an automatic substitute.
Stainless steel designations use a different system and are not direct equivalents of these steel property classes.
